It’s you… This is my first time tweening anything so bear with me here, but I just had to get this out of my system after crying over my billionth Hadestown relisten once again. To be dead, stuck in hell and the only thing you can remember being the last traces of love and kindness you experienced from someone you can’t quite recall anymore…. And eventually losing those few precious memories as well…. Oooouuuh I gotta stop or I’ll make myself cry again, I love this musical so much man 😭🥀 #hadestown #morgandudley #jackwolfe #orpheus #eurydice @jack wolfe @Morgan Dudley

Psalm 104 is a magnificent hymn celebrating God as the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. The Radak (Rabbi David Kimchi, 12th-13th century), a foundational biblical commentator, explains the overall arc of the psalm: after detailing the wonders of creation, the psalmist concludes that all these works are God's glory, in which He can rejoice. However, the Radak adds a profound, sobering layer: the Rejoicing is conditional. As he writes on verse 31, if humanity acts righteously, God delights in His creation; but if the world becomes corrupt, as in the time of the Flood, God's "joy" turns to sorrow. "The Holy One, blessed be He, is sometimes joyful and sometimes sad, as it were, like when there was the generation of the Flood, and it grieved Him at His heart." Therefore, the psalmist prays that God's glory will be forever, a prayer that the world will remain worthy of that divine delight. This tension is resolved at the end of days, when the wicked will finally be gone, and God's joy will be complete. The Radak explains that God's looking at the earth and causing it to tremble (verse 32) is a metaphor for the destruction of the wicked. Just as a look or a touch from the Almighty can shake mountains to smoke, so too can He eliminate evil with a mere glance. The trembling of the earth is a figure of speech for the end of corrupt nations. The Radak further clarifies that when the psalmist says "He touches the mountains, and they smoke", this "smoke" represents the final disappearance of evil itself. This is not a description of a volcanic event, but a prophetic image of divine judgment that purifies the world. The Radak notes the beautiful symmetry between verse 31 and verse 34. In verse 31, the psalmist prays, "May the LORD rejoice in His works." In verse 34, the psalmist responds, "I will rejoice in the LORD." The Radak interprets this as a covenental relationship: "We will be His people, and He will be our God." God's joy in His creation is mirrored by the human soul's joy in its Creator. In Kabbalistic terms, the “glory of God” (Kavod Hashem) that endures forever corresponds to the Sefirah of Tiferet (Beauty/Harmony), which balances the divine attributes of lovingkindness (Chesed) and judgment (Gevurah). The “rejoicing” of God in His works represents the harmonious flow of divine energy into creation. The “trembling of the earth” when God looks upon it is a metaphor for the world's awareness of the strict judgment inherent in creation. The “smoking mountains” symbolize the burning away of the klipot (husks of impurity) that conceal holiness, allowing only pure devotion to rise. The verse "Let sinners cease out of the earth" is not a cry for revenge, but a prayer for a purified world. The Radak clarifies: "Then sinners will be consumed from the earth, and there will be no more wicked people." This is the prayer for the Messianic era, when evil will no longer exist and God's glory will be universally recognized. The psalm ends with the same words with which it began: "Bless the LORD, O my soul, Halleluyah." This is not a repetition; it is a culmination. The individual soul, having contemplated the vastness of creation, now returns to its own center and offers its own praise. The Radak notes that "Halleluyah" (הַלְלוּיָהּ) is the highest praise of all, combining "song" and "praise" in a single word, and containing the two-letter name of God, "Yah" (יָהּ). This is the song of a soul that has looked at the universe, and then at itself, and found only one response: Praise. May your voice carry its ancient, triumphant joy, tempered with the profound humility of a single soul in the presence of the eternal.#psalms #psalm #jewishtiktok #souloftorah #torahsoul
