Shining Vale follows Pat Phelps (Courteney Cox) and her family as they move to a 200-year-old Connecticut mansion to save their marriage. Pat, a former "wild child" and bestselling author, is struggling with writer's block, depression, and infidelity. She soon realizes the house is haunted and that she is either being possessed or losing her mind. The Core Plot & Supernatural TwistsThe "Muse": Pat begins experiencing visions of Rosemary (Mira Sorvino), a 1950s housewife who died by suicide in the home. Rosemary becomes Pat's muse, possessing her body so Pat can finish her overdue second book.Generational Curses: Rosemary's ulterior motives are driven by the tragedies of her past. As the story unfolds, it is revealed that the Phelps' house has a sinister history of being an asylum for "hysterical women," and Pat discovers her family’s fate is deeply entangled with it.The Ending ExplainedThe Finale Cliffhanger: In the Season 2 finale ("Chapter 16 - Redemption"), Pat uncovers a vast conspiracy surrounding her pregnancy and the people plotting to steal her newborn baby. The Ultimate Betrayal: After giving birth, Pat attempts to settle into a peaceful life, thinking her husband Terry (Greg Kinnear) is a local mayor and everything is finally fine. However, she suddenly pieces together clues and the truth is shockingly revealed: Terry is Satan himself, and he orchestrated the entire haunting and conspiracy.
