I don’t live in Northern Europe, but I do live in a place with short days in the winter and now I wonder if that could be a reason for my seasonal depression.

The ozone layer is also thinner in Australia. Even African immigrants say the sun is far more intense here. Truth is nobody is immune from skin cancer, it just shows quicker in white people

When I was 18 years old, I moved from California, where I was from, to Anchorage, Alaska. When winter hit, and it was well below zero with barely any sunlight for months, I became incredibly depressed and cried a lot. (SAD is the clinical term). Now I live in Bali and don't feel depressed at all. Sunlight impacts everything more than many people realize.

I’m from the UK - I wouldn’t really call sunlight ‘rare’. Like we see the sun

I spent four years in Fort Lauderdale and then I realized that I needed to get home to New England. I could see how it was affecting my skin.

I’m brown, live in Canada and started wearing sun screen on my face to minimize sun damage and take vitamin D supplements.

I realized why I hate the summer sun even in my home in the Pacific Northwest — I’m at a more southern latitude than any of my ancestors ever lived before 😳

people seem to not understand we are also animals, and have evolved to suit our historical environments exactly like every other animal

Australia also has a huge hole in the ozone layer making UV rays much stronger

I don’t even understand why Australia is so sunny. It’s close to the South Pole. Should it not look the same

I’m Eastern European and that’s why most of my vacations I spend in the north or in mild places. I can’t manage excess heat and sun , it drains my energy. If I do go somewhere hot I spend my entire time in a swimming pool. It’s mind boggling to me why would people want to live somewhere they are not designed to live in. That’s a recipe for disaster. Environment is hugely important
