@traveltomtom: 🚢🌊 New milestone in Maldives!!! 🇲🇻 Today I witnessed something that has never been done before in the Maldives: the sinking of a 60-meter vessel to create an artificial reef and brand-new dive site. At first, it may sound strange to deliberately sink a ship. But this wasn’t just any vessel… For years it traveled between local islands all over the Maldives collecting fish from local fishermen before being retired years ago. Instead of scrapping it, the ship has now been given a second life on the ocean floor at the Siyam World resort. The project is called Wreck to Reef. Coral has already been planted on the vessel a while ago and over time it slowly transformed into a thriving marine ecosystem, attracting fish, sharks, rays and countless other marine species. @Sun Siyam just added another spectacular dive site here in Maldives. 🙌🏽 I was lucky enough to be there for the launch and see this piece of Maldivian maritime history begin its new chapter beneath the waves.
