@mmasutani: READ THIS BEFORE YOU COMMENT!!!!!My point is not to promote anti-intellectualism (just to put it out there), shame educated people, or suggest that intellectuals think they are “the Neo better Blacks.” My concern is about access. If intellectuals, especially those speaking on public platforms, are trying to educate society, then the language/tone/pace… they use matters. Who is the audience? Are they speaking to other scholars and peers, or are they speaking to ordinary people who also need to understand these issues? English is often not our first language or the language we use every day. So when important information is shared in complex English, it can easily become a barrier due to time to process, analyse and interpret (time and memory span majority of us lack). I do not believe people are rejecting knowledge. I think many people are struggling to connect with so-called intellectuals because the message feels too far away from them. Even people who genuinely want to learn can feel excluded when basic ideas are made too difficult to understand. also do not believe that people need big English words to understand the full depth, context, or nuance of an issue. Complex language does not automatically make a conversation more meaningful. Sometimes, it only creates distance between the speaker and the people they are trying to reach.

I don’t understand people who feel the need to intellectualize everything. Education is very important, and intellectual analysis has its place, but so do lived experiences. Sometimes people use intellectual analysis in a way that invalidates or overlooks the human reality of a situation, and that’s where I struggle to relate

You tell a person “We slept without eating” and they reply with “Impossible, according to what what research, average income house holds is this much” like are you gonna believe a first hand experience or a research by some company that asked 100 people

I love Amahle and sometimes I genuinely don’t understand what she’s saying 😭😭😭😭 I think people should use big words and then explain after. Because sometimes people don’t know what the terms are for things they are experiencing. And when you educate people on those terms it empowers people to understand what they are feeling and experiencing
