Capn Clark’s Ottoman Empire tells it all, Ottoman empire had a nickname, “The Sick man of Europe” Clark’s brain is the backrooms in this movie, Mary tries to save Clark because she wishes she could have saved her mom. But Clark drags them into his problems, Bobby and Kats missing person posters represent how they are forgotten victims of someone else that dragged them into their problems, that’s why Bobby couldn’t untie the knot, went down the slippery slope and found Clark’s dirty laundry, the Cutout is Clark’s cry for someone to understand him, Kat said she could see him through the glass, referencing Alcohol with Bottles, but Captain Clark is growing behind him meaning his alter ego is taking over. It all just matters who’s POV your looking through, that’s why Mary says at the end “You’ve been there too” and he said I’m there everyday, Everyone has their own trauma and problems. Amazing Psychological movie, there’s so much more i’ve analyzed that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

I always thought that other Mary wasn't a still life but rather a lifeform like Captaon Clark. While Captain Clark was born of fear and rage Other Mary was empty and confused, hence her sitting and staring into nothing like we see her stare earlier in the movie.

dude i love your analysis so much!! is there anything you’ve further theorized about mary's mom? we saw so little about her and i've only seen people shallowly theorizing about her going crazy after going into the backrooms as well but without much evidence behind it
