I love watching this! We have a micromanaging border collie and a puppy who also loves to chase cats

So, the dogs know they can jump off place, chase the cat, go back to place and get rewarded again? What?

so how do you discourage the cat chasing? since cat chasing in and of itself is rewarding so withholding the treat and telling the dog to get back to place isn't gonna discourage it- the dog already got its reward

Yeah no. Your dog is stressing the cat out, and clearly doesn’t understand she’s doing something wrong. I’m all for positive reinforcement but there are situations where a correction might be necessary, it’s called communication, not abuse.

Dang Gina I’ve been watching your videos for a while but this one really makes me second guess your expertise… highly trained dogs and they don’t know they can’t chase down cats?

It doesn’t really look like you did anything because the other two that were receiving there didn’t get treats as fast as the other two that got off

But doesn't this tell them it's okay to do the wrong thing as long as they end up doing the right thing eventually? Does this make sense? I use some forms of punishment in my training to avoid this and ensure obedience without space for tomfoolery, so the dog doesn't end up thinking it's fine to run around, bark or whatever before finally listening to one command. I'm asking to broaden my perspectives and knowledge, not to hate, I'm just open to changing my ways if I'm wrong

This only works when your reward is more rewarding than not doing what u asked.
