FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Unreleased Wayne Static Footage Discovered During Early Work on Documentary Previously unseen 1999 interview surfaces while digitizing archival tapes As work quietly begins behind the scenes on an upcoming documentary centered on the relationship between Wayne Static and Tera Wray, filmmaker Matt Zane has uncovered rare, unreleased footage of Wayne Static dating back more than 25 years. Although the documentary is not officially scheduled to enter production until January, Zane has already started digitizing hours of archival tapes filmed with the couple. During the process, one tape—seemingly out of place among the batch—was discovered bearing a handwritten label reading simply: “1999.” Upon review, the tape was revealed to contain a previously unseen interview with Wayne Static filmed shortly after STATIC-X completed its first run on Ozzfest in 1999, capturing the artist at a pivotal moment just as his career was beginning to take off. “I couldn’t believe it,” said Zane. “It was the raw footage from the first time I officially filmed Wayne. Almost 20 minutes of him right when everything was starting to happen. The tape is over 25 years old and it still plays.” While Zane’s documentary is focused specifically on the relationship between Wayne Static and Tera Wray, the newly discovered footage predates that chapter of Wayne’s life by several years. Even so, Zane believes portions of the interview may provide valuable context. “There are a few things in there that will further the understanding of Wayne’s depth as a person and his sense of humor,” Zane explained. “I’ll definitely be including some of it.” According to Zane, the film is intended to be a personal, emotionally driven account centered on the bond between Wayne Static and Tera Wray—a story he maintains the couple explicitly wanted him to tell. The crowdfunding campaign for the documentary is currently live on IndieGoGo.
