I loved this story! I disagree when people say journaling in public is "performative" like that's a bad thing. We are all constantly performing, that's how we find each other. We need to bring back third places like town squares, I think. Places we could all meet up and do our respective crafts.

I spoke about this recently with a knitting friend on Instagram when we spoke about knitting in public. So many older people come speak to us because we knit in public! It must be so challenging in the digital age for older people to connect with us and us doing things like knitting, journalling etc in public opens everyone up for such meaningful interactions. It’s as important for them as it is for us 🫶

About $20. Jinhao 10 & 20 - (the dupes of the Pilot Vanishing Point / Decimo - about $20 I like the Fine nib on these. Platinum Preppy - fine or medium nib. About $15. Omg!!! I had the same experience! I was at a coffee shop too I was alone drinking coffee, a group of girls sat beside me and I had to move a little, they saw my writing (I’m writing in cursive) they complimented my handwriting too and I was so happy too hehe

I was journaling outside at a cafe and the old lady next to me complimented my hand writing, we struck up a conversation and now we’re friends!! I went over to hers for lunch and we’ve been hanging out in nyc together! 🥹

When I was traveling I did a lot of sketching/journalling in public and it’s kinda cool how much it can spark conversations from people who are curious. One guy in a hostel drew in there too.

I HIGHLY recommend the Pilot Metropolitan in fine for a beginner fountain pen, it’s ~$35 so more than the Pilot Kakuno but it has a weight to it that makes it feel very high quality imo :)
