It’s important to note that herpes is not always transmissible. When it’s lying dormant (and not in an active outbreak or not asymptomatic shedding), it’s not always transmissible. That’s why it’s important to know your symptoms, know your triggers, and know how to manage it. That’s how you can prevent transmission to partners and enjoy sex without worrying about it. Is there still a risk of transmission? Yes. But herpes is SO COMMON, many people have it, and the more educated and self-aware you are about it, the transmission risks and rates are lower.
