Modeling moves 💃
I lost all of my sponsors. But it’s funny because I was actually posting and promoting more than I ever have. I grew 26k subs on YouTube in one year. 210k on Tik Tok. The other funny thing is I’ve ALWAYS been sick. I’ve traveled across the country since I was in middle school looking for help. My sponsors just didn’t know. The hip surgeries actually took a bigger toll on me than expected, because they also caused a potential csf leak that nobody has been able to figure out. I have debilitating head pressure that makes my life almost impossible, but I still do it all. I started posting more about my health and still don’t share the majority of it. I prefer posting about the fun stuff, the stuff that distracts me from it all. But one thing remains unchanged. I’ve always worked my ass off (literally) and push my limits. I became a pro wakesurfer within 3 years of starting the sport with completely torn hips. I have a neuro disease and literally can’t feel most of my legs when I surf and compete. It’s literally just muscle memory with a lot of training involved. I should be in an adaptive division. I’ve just never talked about it. And it’s hard to find help which makes it hard to explain to people especially when you look totally normal and are athletic. I always planned my hip surgeries in the winter during the off season, so I could surf and create content during the summers for my sponsors. I still competed when I could. The point of this post is for me to start sharing more of my story and advocate for myself and others. We tend to put on a show, pretend to be normal, because we’re afraid to show how much we’re suffering because we’re afraid of losing more than we already have. It’s normal to film a 3Shuv or to wear a bikini on a boat and post it. It’s weird af to film yourself sick. But how else do you show both sides? And the best part is it’s an invisible disability so there’s no way to truly show it. I don’t need sponsors and I never have. But more companies should promote the adaptive community and that’s what I plan to do with my brand @rainclothingco 🩵 • #adaptiveathlete #neurodisability #chronicillness #wakesurfing #ehlersdanlos
