bitumen road surfaces are the best that there is, that is why it is used all over the world, there are also other type of roads, like concrete, or stone, they are so much worse 😅😂

concrete costs twice as much initially but never needs maintenance. bitumen needs constant maintenance and is more costly long term, profitable for govt contractors

Peter Evenhuis :
the problem with bitumen is that it breaks down when exposed to oil or diesel, so a leaking car, will result in areas where the bitumen becomes weaker as a result of the pot holes, so engine maintenance is a bigger issue

Companies use asphalt so they can keep themselves in business as they know the asphalt will need to be constantly repaired or replaced

Perfect from a narrow engineering perspective. But what happens to the people who build maintenance-free roads? They may lose their jobs, rely on unemployment benefits, or be forced to relocate to find work. Alternatively, you can build cheaper roads that require ongoing maintenance, creating long-term employment for construction and maintenance crews. Socioeconomic decisions are often about balancing engineering efficiency with employment, public spending, and regional development. Comments that focus only on the technical side while ignoring these broader trade-offs miss an important part of the picture.

Asphalt companies should not even exist. It should be run by the government employment, a yearly salary, and they work all year round.

In an ideal world asphalt roads would only be a protective layer over a concrete foundation

everything would break eventually. asphalt has good properties not mentioned like flexibility to small road earth movements. if there was something better they would have picked it.

this is not true, bitumen is mixed with coal and ta which are solid minerals that are durable enough to endure high temperatures.
bitumen are used because of it elasticity content, that makes the pavement flexible
