@thespanishpatriot: The Reconquista was a long period in the history of the Iberian Peninsula during which Christian kingdoms gradually retook territory from Muslim rulers. It began in 722 with the Battle of Covadonga and lasted for almost eight centuries. During this time, kingdoms such as Castile, Aragon, and León expanded southwards. The Reconquista ended in 1492, when the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon, conquered the Kingdom of Granada, the last Muslim state in Spain. This event marked the unification of most of Spain under Christian rule and was a key moment in Spanish history. credits: pastinked.store #spain #españa #🇪🇸 #History #europe
