@travismayo: Julian Jaynes proposed something called the bicameral mind. The idea that until roughly three thousand years ago, the human mind didn't experience an internal monologue the way we do now. Instead people heard a voice that felt external. Commanding. Like a god speaking. The theory connects ancient texts like The Iliad to modern experiences of auditory hallucination, and raises a strange question about where your own inner voice actually came from. #TravisMayo #learning #JulianJaynes #BicameralMind #Psychology
my inner monologue doesn't talk to me, I am in control of it

I wonder if it's because more humans can read maybe reading trains this form of thought

i never hear a voice thats different from myself. it's just me talking silently, and i assume that's what we call thinking.

I have ADHD and sometimes I speak to my inner monologue like it's another person and it's almost like I'm speaking with someone with a different opinion of which I can't know the opinion right away, it has to start speaking in order for me to understand the thought it's forming, like an external voice but I perfectly know is just the way my brain processes complex informations

There has never been a “voice” talking in my head. It’s always been me thinking. Thinking in thoughts, not sounds, not voice. It’s me.

So this is a theory. When you started the clip you just presented it as fact. This is also a stretch of a theory. Not at all that plausible.

This theory is highly controversial and rejected by the neuroscience community. Interesting theory, though.

The voice is the ego. If you don't hear a voice then you're living in the ego. Being able to hear the voice means you are not the voice but the observer of the voice

it's just an evolution of psychology, not a change of our minds. inner monologue used to be attributed to spirits or God, now we just classify it as our own thoughts
