I carry Canavan disease. It has the same mode of inheritance as sickle cell (an autosomal recessive trait). While sickle cell is mainly found in people with African ancestry, Canavan is found almost exclusively in people with Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry (my dad's side is Jewish).
