@fogofunknowns: Jun 13, 2026 On Friday, June 12, 2026, Yemeni adventurer Qaqaa Antar Al Absi, widely known as “Qaqaa bin Antar” or “Yemen’s Spider-Man,” died after falling into the Haradha Damt volcanic crater in Damt district, Al-Dhalea Governorate, southern Yemen. The approximately 30 year old free climber was performing one of his signature acrobatic stunts on the steep inner walls of the crater when he lost his balance and fell roughly 30-120 meters (reports vary on exact depth) into the hot, sulfurous waters below. Qaqaa had gained fame over recent years for his daring climbs on the crater’s dangerous rocky cliffs and walls without any safety ropes, harnesses, or professional gear. He was known for descending deep into the crater, performing bold balancing acts near the hot springs, and even writing visitors’ names on the rock faces for a small fee, his main source of income to support his poor family. Videos of his feats, showing him clinging to sheer walls with just his fingers and executing risky jumps or hangs, had made him a local sensation and drawn thousands of followers online. In the fatal incident, witnesses and circulating footage captured the horrifying moment he slipped while near the edge or performing near the water. He appeared to lose footing, possibly due to a cramp or fatigue, and plummeted, hitting rocks before landing in the water. Rescue teams from Yemen’s Civil Defense immediately launched search and recovery efforts. The operation faced extreme challenges: the crater’s steep terrain, hot sulfurous water, toxic gases, and lack of advanced diving equipment delayed access. Divers eventually reached the site, and his body was recovered after more than a day of intensive efforts. Qaqaa was not just a thrill seeker; many described him as exceptionally talented with spider like grip and balance, having repeatedly navigated the same hazardous crater for years. He had performed similar stunts before, including jumps into smaller nearby craters. His death has sparked widespread mourning mixed with debate, some hail him as a brave provider driven by poverty, while others call it reckless endangerment that ignored safety warnings. He reportedly told people he had no other way to feed his family. The tragedy shows the risks of extreme free climbing in rugged terrain amid limited safety resources. #news #viral #CaughtOnCamera #fyp #ViralVideo
