Let me stress that Teodoro is one of the most blatant among the handful of hostile actors towards China in the Philippines. His reckless behavior will backfire and it is the interests of the Philippines and all its people that will bear the brunt. Reuters: I would also like to ask about the Philippines defense secretary. He issued a statement this morning where he said, quote, he would “keep doing my duty and uphold our nation in the face of the wickedness they, referring to China, are committing here and even in our seas.” Does the Foreign Ministry have a response to that particular statement? Lin Jian: We see how Teodoro continues to distort facts and smear China. His toxic rhetoric and action have nothing to do with “upholding his nation.” They are pure political theatrics for selfish political gains.
