@therealgirlboy: This is not me telling you to stop your medication. Medication is amazing and there is nothing wrong with taking it. If you are relying on your medication to remain mentally stable, especially if you’re relying on it to remain alive absolutely do not stop your medication. Depression seems to be the norm lately. It seems like almost every person you meet has experienced depression or is actively experiencing depression. This is not a casual use of the word depression. This is the clinical definition. Depression is serious. Depression kills people. It gets to a point where we need to start asking questions. Questions like: are all of these cases of depression, physiological chemical imbalances? Why are prescribers so quick to prescribe antidepressants but they won’t broach the subject on circumstances that are causing this? Why is one of the key diagnostic criteria in all mental illness impairment with work? Are humans meant to be going through what they are going through right now? When people talk about what is a driving factor in their declining mental health they often site work financial problems, interpersonal relationship issues, childhood, trauma, etc. it is normal to feel depressed because of these things I do not think these are indicators of people experiencing a genetic expression of depression. I believe the reason why mental health disorders like depression and anxiety are so common is because of system set in place that are actively harmful and using people and their labor. #capitalism #medication #leftist #liberation #depressed
lexapro saved my life but i have no motivation now like whatsoever and that’s also taking a toll on my life but like id rather not have debilitating anxiety and depression sooo

“Are you really depressed or are you responding to your environment” feels poorly worded. I’m REALLY depressed because I have PTSD, which is literally a reaction to your environment. It can be both. It’s not one or the other.

I mean, I agree but also there’s not much we can do immediately to change our environment. Like the vast majority of us can’t just totally escape the confines of capitalism in any meaningful way and if an anti depressant helps us get out of a neurological loop to where we can actually find the little slices of joy available to us in this late stage capitalistic hellscape, so be it? I say this as someone who is no longer in antidepressants but without them my brain chemistry wouldn’t have allowed me to get out of the wake up-cry-binge eat-cry-drink-cry-oversleep cycle.

No bro, when I was in the worst environments, antidepressants did not help no matter how high I went. When I was later depressed in a good situation antidepressants helped a ton.

Yeah, I shouldn't have to get on an SSRI because I don't like living with my husband. There should be affordable housing.
