Welcome to the Literature Club! My name is Monika🥰 If you are one of the MANY people who… for some reason… seems to think that going by they/them pronouns is grammatically incorrect, you may be one of the 21% (likely a VERY low estimate) of Americans who are functionally illiterate! If you are functionally illiterate, you might have an understanding of what words mean by themselves, or know 1 definition of a word, but might not know that words sometimes have different meanings depending on context:) Also dilect, slang, and other factors can change the meaning of words or phrases too! Also, English evolves over time. There are words that were used hundreds of years ago that we still use today, but they have a different meaning now! So if you look at very old text, and use the modern definitions of words, you may completely misinterpret what you’re reading. This is always why you need context to fully understand what you’re reading. If you take a sentence out of context, you may not understand the point the person is trying to make. Also, if someone who is illiterate misquotes something, if you take what they said to automatically be correct, you might not understand what the author is saying either. Check out this account where you can see possibly the craziest game of internet telephone in existence! Welcome to Project Libitina! Get ready for me to say “I never said that” about 1,000,000 times! Follow this account and check out my free Patreon (or use code ARG for 25% off some sick bonus content!) where I talk about this in a LOT more detail! I gamified functional literacy! I hope you love it! -M #ddlc #dokidoki #pronouns #literacy #arg
