Full Engine Rebuild on Ford 2.2 TDCi: Pistons, Cylinder Head, Timing Chain. • In this video, we perform a complete overhaul of the Ford 2.2 TDCi diesel engine after a common but extremely damaging issue - burnt injector sealing washers. When these washers fail, exhaust gases begin leaking under the valve cover and immediately mix with the engine oil, turning it into a thick, contaminated substance. Thickened oil can no longer properly cool the pistons from below, causing severe overheating. As a result, deep scoring appears on the pistons and cylinder walls, making a full engine rebuild unavoidable. A tiny washer costing a few cents can lead to a complete engine overhaul if not replaced in time. • During the rebuild, we install oversized pistons (+0.5 mm), new connecting rods (the old ones were damaged due to spun bearings), new bearings, and a full set of piston rings. Before installation, ring end-gaps are measured carefully: top compression ring - 0.25 to 0.5 mm, second compression ring - 0.5 to 0.75 mm. The rings are positioned in the classic “triangle” pattern so the gaps face different directions. The pistons are installed using a special compressor tool, and the connecting-rod caps are tightened with new bolts: 37 Nm + 90°. • We also cover the installation of the timing chain system. The kit includes the chain, three guides, and the tensioner. Proper alignment requires special locking tools: two camshaft locking pins and a crankshaft locking plate. The process includes installing all components according to timing marks, performing preset tensioning, removing the tensioner pin, tightening camshaft sprocket bolts, and finally rotating the crankshaft twice to verify correct alignment. • This video is highly useful for anyone rebuilding a Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi engine or working with its timing chain system for the first time.
