Yes, you need patient care experience. It should be a minimum number of hours, similar to PA school.

Yes, because the np model was built for experienced nurses who have already developed assessment skills in their field. If you don’t want to be a bedside nurse that’s okay , but I’d suggest PA school because you get a mini med-school modeled education that would be more beneficial if you aren’t actually planning to be a bedside nurse.

as an Np, yes they should HAVE to work in the AREA of speciality they are obtaining their NP in, honestly 5 years in that area would be best before applying to np school

I did for 12 years before completing my doctorate in NP trauma and emergency medicine and management of it! I believe they should have to have a min 2 years ER/Med Surg/peds/hospice rotations
