Fighters of the French Forces of the Interior (FFI) erected barricades, attacked German positions, and launched an uprising that quickly spread across the capital's neighborhoods. ​The colorized footage captures the intensity of those days: gunfire echoing between centuries-old buildings, improvised vehicles moving through smoke-filled streets, and resistance fighters engaging German troops in close-quarters combat. On August 24, the first elements of General Leclerc's 2nd Armored Division entered Paris, spearheaded by M4 Sherman tanks and armored vehicles. Less than 24 hours later, on August 25, the German garrison capitulated. ​The liberation of Paris represented more than a military victory. It marked the symbolic collapse of four years of occupation and became one of the defining moments of the Allied campaign in Western Europe.
