This 5-minute habit built trust faster than anything else I did. 1️⃣ The “Friday Recap” Rule Never let a week end without sending a 3-bullet email to your manager. • What you shipped (analysis / deliverables / wins) • What’s blocked (risks / dependencies) • What’s the focus for next week (priorities / plan) If you don’t send this, they assume you’re coasting. If you do send it, they feel safe. 2️⃣ Stop bringing problems without solutions Junior employees say: “The data is missing.” High performers say: “The data is missing, so I reached out to the data team and created a manual estimate in the meantime. Should we wait for the real data or use the estimate?” Always have a recommendation. 3️⃣ The “Translation” Rule Stop listing tasks on your self-review. Start listing outcomes. • Don’t say: “I updated the spreadsheet.” • Say: “I updated the tracker which caught £5k in errors.” 4️⃣ Own the first 5 minutes of your 1:1 Most people walk into a 1:1 and say: “What do you want to talk about?” Wrong. You should walk in with an agenda. “Here are the 3 things I made progress on, and the 1 place I need your feedback.” 5️⃣ Document your “Wins” Folder You think you’ll remember that great piece of work you did in March when year-end reviews come around. You won’t. Create a folder now. Screenshots, kudos emails, strong deliverables. 6️⃣ Be “low friction” The most promotable skill is being easy to work with. Reply to emails fast.
