Absolutely not. Get field experience first then transition into the office if you would rather go that route. How can you be a manager for a builder if you’ve never actually built anything

Personally I think, if your going to school. Work in the field for first two years. Then your last two years work an internship.

Yeah I’m gonna have to disagree, you need to start in the field as maybe a carpenter or something in that nature. And I say this as someone who is doing an internship for CM , the amount of times I’ve gotten lectured for not knowing construction stuff

I would say Field Engineer. As a field engineer you have a blend of office and field.

25 year in HVAC 9 installing, 1 as a technician and 15 as a mechanical drafter. Got all my education from my union. Best ones actually built something and when I walk onto a site I pick off issues like butter .

I just feel like a project engineer’s role varies so much company to company, at least from the few I’ve interviewed with. I’ve had some that say their assistant PM’s spend 75% of their time in the field, does that sound like a project engineers typical split?
