Wish I could walk into one of those stores and experience that the way it was back then and maybe trade some garden produce. Would be fun

Mr.Carl Williams owned the store at Comers Rock Virginia . you could get any thing there. He was a big ol man. Very gruff and to the point. My uncle asked him once what chainsaw he should get. Mr.Carl replied, get the best one yo can afford and that'll be sorry enough. 😁🥰

There was one just a mile from our grandparents. Grandpa would give each of us grandkids a quarter and we cousins would walk the mile to the little store and spend our quarter and come back , each with our little paper sack full of 🍬 candy. I remember the coke cooler full of ice with the cold coke bottles inside.

This is my 4th great grandmother, Jemina. I’ve never lived in the Appalachia, but I would love to roam the same hills as my family’s matriarch once did. She had a whopping 175 grandchildren!

I wish I could’ve lived during those times instead of this fake corporate reality we’re in now.

I used to drive by one every day that's been converted into a bank. They have a small showcase inside explaining the history of the building. It's right on the intersection of two busy streets, I so wish the walls could talk and tell me everything they've seen
