@3rdwrlddddd: Alter egos seem to catch fire all over culture. Everyone can think of a famous one. Maybe Kobe’s “Black Mamba”, Slim Shady, or maybe even a movie example like Psycho’s creepy Mother alter ego. An alter ego is defined in Merriam Webster as “a second self or different version of oneself”. Basically, alter egos are created players. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing though, because when these creatives make an alter ego, all rules seemingly cease to exist. That’s when we get all the cool alter egos like Yeezus, Tyler Durden, MF DOOM, Batman, and all the many examples. They all come from a spot of vast and pure creativity that you could only get from a “second self”. But all of this raises the question: Are alter egos just some form of escapism? Performance? We see it all the time with celebrities. They become famous, they live under this second self, and they die trying to maintain it. Maybe the alter ego is a door, maybe it’s a cage, maybe it’s both at the same time. Whatever it is, the alter ego doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. #3rdwrld #ynwmelly #ye
