This might be an unpopular take, but accepting late work is a privilege that the student has to earn. If they are rude and disrespectful to me, I'm not accepting missing work. If they were rude, but apologize (sincerely) I can give them a second chance depending on the situation. Students need to realize that their actions have consequences, and actions include what you say, what you do and how you treat people.

and this is why so many teachers are leaving the profession. I have no idea how you all do it. I have two teenagers and some days are impossible, I can't imagine 20 a class (on average)

when my mom found out that I was slipping behind, she would walk me into school each morning and talk to everything single teacher that I had. this continued until I had my grades up to a B-. She did it the same thing to my siblings. Proud to say that I instantly wised up to avoid my mom coming to my HS.

I know people like to sh*t on private schools, but, at my private highschool, you lost 25% per day for a missing assignments and the teachers only informed you the day it was due and the day you fell at zero. Then, they called your parents. If you had 5 missing assignments in the same semester, all classes combined, you were OUT and mom & dad didn't get ANY of that tuition money back.

I'm not from the us but student don't have date lines for the assigment ? In my country if you don't do the work on time you have a 0 ( except if you have a doctor notes to explain why you weren't there on the day) and we don't have a lot of assigment most of grades come from test taking in class.
