Little person here who grew up in Utah 👋 This urban legend was so widespread that even Little People of America addresses it in the FAQ section of its website. There’s no documented history of little people living as a community at Allen Park. The lore reflects some of the stereotypes little people were often assigned because the park is so whimsical and otherworldly. Even in my lifetime as a millennial, I’ve seen society come a long way in recognizing that little people are just ordinary people who live everywhere and are part of every community.
The homes and cabins there are older and reflect a time when smaller houses were much more typical than the larger homes we’re used to today. I finally got a chance to drive through Allen Park in college, and I can see why the legend took off. I’m glad the city preserved it because its whimsy stands on its own, and it’s a historic place worth preserving.

Growing up, I legit thought their were mythical hobbit fairy type creatures living there. Then as an adult, an artist friend of mine from Georgia moved there. He could not understand my excitement to see his house. It was a teensy wood cabin like the inside of a ship's hold. The 3 ft galley kitchen was at the foot of the bed, with peacocks screaming at all hours lol.

Hobitville was a wide spread mystery. I grew up in Davis County. My husband grew up in Tooele and knew all about it too. We used to drive by there all the time! I had no idea it was a park now and you could just walk in. I may be going in the very near future!

Wait, is this the one up by Westminster College? I remember there was something like that there that was told to us. We searched for it, but couldn’t find it.

So I had always heard that Dr. Allen open that so it could be a small private zoo with lots of exotic birds. And that he also helped open the Hogle zoo and the Tracy aviary. Now I’m curious to actually look up the history.

The way this is universal lore if you were raised in Salt Lake is amazing. Just now finding this out - I always thought it was just my friends and I that spoke of this and called it Hobbitville 😂

I loved Hobbitville. We would drive through it at night in the 80’s. I’m a dumb blonde and believed the scary stories! We would always drive to Captain Emo’s grave after!

How have I never heard of Hobbitville??? My friends and I would go to Emo's grave, gravity hill, Gilgal and other places back in the day. Then go eat at Bill and Nada's or Dee's. 😂
