Are they in villages, and are those normal villages or vacation villages that are empty in winter while the owners are in the city? Do you go to to dacha for Christmas? Thanks!

My grandparents each had a dacha. The best memories were made there during the summer. Hard work was a must. The homes were build by my parents and grandparents and had no plumbing or electricity. One of the dacha is till in the family.

Before my dad moved all of us to Russia in 1998 I can confirm that this is true. We have a huge apartment and our awesome summer house with beautiful vegetable and flower garden

If I recall, in "Russian Political Thought," the dacha concept is actually older than Peter the Great, but the concept is the same.
