i think its a misx of two stories, that being great gatsby and wuthering heights. wuthering heights has a lot of angst and also cathy and heathcliff being half siblings while great gatsby is where gatsby tries to make parties and glamorous things in order to bring back daisy to him. both have motifs of being haunted by their love, both are haunted by intense love but also a lot of turmoil and grief. another possibility is them mixing this up with the movie ghost, which im intrigued by. but we'll see!!!
