@thetimes: 🔺 EXCLUSIVE: Hundreds of babies are alleged to have died or suffered serious injuries at a major NHS trust because of failings over 15 years. The families of more than 250 infants have said their babies were hurt under the care of Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. Sources believe as many as 3,000 mothers and babies could allege to have been harmed in what is feared to be Britain’s biggest maternity scandal. A Sunday Times investigation has found that one of the trust’s two neonatal units — St James’s University Hospital — was providing regular intensive care to babies when it was not set up to do so. The unit did not have enough qualified speciality nurses, was too small and lacked emergency procedures and kit for seriously ill babies. Overcrowding and poor communication among staff led to babies being sent to the unit to receive intensive care when it was not authorised for this. *For news purposes* #scandal #maternity #news #medical #crime
