@hippiedollxo: when you compare the two. duh one’s a food source. the common thing the share is draining the lake. prior to the conversation being about data centers and concerns about water, the lake had been rapidly drying, the whole western United States has been drying due to private dams serving the financial interest of a people. clearly we need food to eat, for thousands of years humans typically have adapted themselves and their crops to the environment they’re in, and I’m sure if it was drying up the lake and killing the environment the way Utah has it find a new way find a new crop, find a new animal something. The point is you can defeat the AI, and you still have a dried up Lake if you don’t address the original issue. and no one has been speaking up about this issue until data centers. but if you don’t care about the original issues, then you don’t care about Utah’s environment and/or shouldn’t be caring about a data center. ##utah##utahhair##datacenter#w#water

Both are terrible yes but one is providing locally grown food vs a storage locker for digital foot prints on a plot of land the size of slc county and consumes way more energy in a year than the whole state does in 3 years. There needs to be top to bottom restructuring but also we can’t let more things suck the life out of the planet in the mean time

We can try and stop some data centers from building that can save the water it would have taken if we let it be built. While yeah those farmings may take up more water than centers, letting both exist will double that consumption. Both are bad, by voting and speaking against the construction of the data centers we delay the process and ruin the centers would have caused for the surrounding environments. Instead of choosing to pick the worst one we can advocate for both since the cons outweigh the pros tremendously. Since data centers are still in the works in some states ppl are speaking about those more since it’s more possible to get those voted against.
