I think one of the saddest things about being human is how many of us spend years believing our lives will finally begin once we become prettier, thinner, clearer, younger, more toned, more perfect. We tell ourselves we’ll be confident then, we’ll wear the outfit then, we’ll take the picture then, we’ll love ourselves then. But “then” keeps moving. There’s always another flaw to fix, another insecurity to obsess over, another reason to believe we’re still not enough. Social media doesn’t help. We are constantly surrounded by carefully curated versions of people, and after a while it’s easy to forget that we’re comparing our very real selves to someone’s highlight reel. My heart especially breaks for young girls growing up in a world that teaches them to analyze every inch of themselves before they’ve even had the chance to discover who they are. I don’t want anyone to spend years feeling uncomfortable in their own skin, missing out on memories, love, joy, and experiences because they were too busy believing they had to earn the right to exist as they are. There is nothing wrong with wanting to take care of yourself, to grow, to improve, or to do things that make you feel good in your body. But your worth has never been something you had to earn. You were never meant to spend your life at war with yourself. Because one day you’ll look back at photos of the version of you that you criticized so heavily and realize she was worthy of kindness too. Life is hard enough already. Be gentle with yourself. You don’t have to be perfect to deserve love, respect, compassion, or a beautiful life. You never did!🤍
