Depeche Mode came to Prague to perform in March 1988, it was an incredible sensation. But Depeche Mode actually played in Prague by accident. Originally, Chis Norman from the band Smokie was supposed to perform, but he fell ill and canceled the concert. Norman's manager offered Depeche Mode as a replacement. When the news spread across the country, a quarter of a million people wanted to see the dark legend's concert. Crowds of fans of the band spent the night in front of the ticket booths of the Sports Hall, where tickets were sold. Thirteen thousand tickets were sold. A few months later, the band visited Prague again. This time, Andrew John Fletcher, Martin Lee Gore, Alan Wilder and David Gahan did not perform, they came to see Prague. Their court photographer Anton Corbijn took this incredible series of photographs, which were published in the book The Strangers 🔥
