EA288 Valve Cover Replacement Guide. • In this video, we work on a Volkswagen Crafter equipped with the 2.0 TDI EA288 diesel engine. This vehicle is undergoing a major repair project involving both engine work and transmission repairs. Because of the large amount of work required, the engine and gearbox were removed together from the vehicle. • In this particular video, we focus on one important procedure performed during the repair process - replacing the engine valve cover. Even with a mileage of approximately 200,000 km, this engine had already developed symptoms related to crankcase ventilation system failure. • The main issue was excessive crankcase pressure. On EA288 engines, one of the most common causes of this problem is failure of the crankcase ventilation diaphragm, which is integrated directly inside the valve cover assembly. • Since the diaphragm is built into the valve cover and is not sold separately by the manufacturer, replacing only the damaged membrane is not possible. In this case, the only proper solution is complete valve cover replacement. • At first glance, this repair may seem relatively simple, but access to the valve cover on this engine is actually quite difficult. A large number of components located above the engine must be removed first. • The repair requires removing the intercooler, fuel system components including high-pressure fuel lines, injectors, sections of engine wiring harnesses, brackets, and multiple surrounding components blocking access to the valve cover. • In this video, I show the complete disassembly process, explain what components require extra attention during removal, and demonstrate how to properly prepare the engine for valve cover replacement. • The entire procedure is shown step by step without shortcuts.
