Dude my thing is superwoman is actually an extremely common name in Superman mythos like in super family but that name also the evil variant of Wonder Woman on earth 3 so the real reason she’s superGIRL or powerGIRL is because she is in most of her prominent role she’s Clark’s teenage cousin and Clark is like 35-40 it’s quite literally just an age descriptor what the really should do is make it clear that SUPERGIRL Grows up into POWERWOMAN it would make so much more sense

ok last comment fr bc im done w this video. “kara was a teenager thats why she’s supergirl” shes an adult now. “superwoman already exists” in the video i talk about how common mantle sharing is why is this a problem there are already several characters who’ve gone by superwoman INCLUDING KARA. we have already SEEN dc REFER to KARA as SUPERWOMAN. “supergirl has stronger brand identity” i agree as i SAID IN THE VIDEO but that has nothing to do w ppl being thrown that she’s still going by supergirl. robin has historically had a stronger brand identity than nightwing, same with aqualad and tempest. “superboy is an adult” idk if u know this but ppl complain about kon going by superboy still ALL THE TIME. weird hill to die on considering what superboy actually meant for superman’s mythos for decades BEFORE kon existed. ntm jon existed for less than 6 years before dc bumped him up to superman

It’s a very simple answer,when she was introduced she was a teen and younger than Clark…same way superboy is younger than clark…the same way Clark went by superboy when he was a teen…it’s because they’re teens

Supergirl is more iconic. Notice how Peter is called spiderman but he was always a teenager so changing the name to spider boy isn’t gonna sit right cuz spiderman is the more iconic name so it doesn’t sense to change it. Not saying they can’t change her name to superwoman but supergirl is just more iconic

I haven't read a lot of supergirl so I might be wrong but I feel like her character is almost always characterized by her youth. like most of her appearances they keep talking about her potential and how she could even be more powerful than Clark when she's fully able to control her powers to his level of mastery. I think if they were gonna change the name then they kinda missed their opportunity with Tom Kings on Woman of Tomorrow. started on her 21st birthday and was a coming of age for her reconciling her past so I think it's a problem that's instead that DC would rather not commit to a fully realized Kara who could outshine Clark in some ways
