@watchlostchapters: He won a general election from inside a prison cell. The British had no choice but to release him. On March 6th 1957 he led Ghana to become the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence from colonial rule. He stood before his people and said — Ghana is free forever. But he wanted more. He wanted a United States of Africa. One continental government. One currency. One military. One voice for 300 million African people. He said our independence is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of Africa. America and Britain heard that and decided he had to go. On February 24th 1966 he boarded a plane to Hanoi to negotiate peace in Vietnam. While he was in the air the CIA backed a military coup in Ghana. He landed to find his country gone. He never returned. He died in exile in 1972. His statues were destroyed after the coup. Then rebuilt. The African Union that exists today placed his statue at its front door. History proved him right about everything. His name was Kwame Nkrumah. ✊🌍 Full story on YouTube — link in bio. #KwameNkrumah #Ghana #PanAfrica #AfricanHistory #UntoldHistory #WatchLostChapters #HistoryTok #LearnOnTikTok #GhanaHistory #CIACoup #AfricanIndependence #BlackHistory #PanAfricanism #ForgottenHistory #FYP
