@soph.maii: it is easy to become annoyed by things in daily life, but sometimes it is worth pausing to reflect on how fortunate many of us truly are. we live in a society where most of us can attend school, pursue careers, express our opinions, vote, travel, and make choices about our own futures. these freedoms can feel ordinary because they are woven into our everyday lives. yet for millions of women and girls in afghanistan, these basic rights have been stripped away. many afghan women are denied access to education, prevented from working, restricted in their movement, and excluded from public life. dreams that should belong to every human being—the chance to learn, contribute, and determine their own path—are often placed beyond their reach. recognising this reality isn’t about feeling guilty for what we have. it’s about cultivating gratitude and perspective. the opportunities available to us are precious, and they carry a responsibility to value them, protect them, and speak up for those who are denied them. the impact of these restrictions reaches far beyond education or employment. for many women and girls, they affect almost every aspect of daily life. being denied the opportunity to study can limit future careers and financial independence. restrictions on work can make it difficult to support themselves or their families. limitations on movement and participation in public life can lead to isolation, reducing opportunities to build friendships, develop skills, and contribute to society. over time, these barriers can affect confidence, mental wellbeing, and a person’s sense of purpose. countless dreams are interrupted before they have the chance to grow, and countless talents remain unseen. behind every headline and statistic are real people with aspirations, abilities, and potential, facing obstacles that many of us can hardly imagine. the loss is not only personal but collective, as communities and entire generations are deprived of the contributions, creativity, and leadership these women and girls could offer. when we compare our circumstances with the struggles faced by millions of afghan women, we are reminded that true wealth is not only measured in money. it is measured in freedom, opportunity, dignity, and the ability to shape our own lives. in that sense, many of us are richer than we realise. may we never take those freedoms for granted, and may we continue to stand in solidarity with those still fighting for theirs. #fyp #afghanistan #speakup #awareness
