@olat.farm: One of the reasons we run variety trials every season is simple: Not all cucumber seeds perform the same, even under identical conditions. Today marks 19 days after germination, and the differences between these three varieties are becoming impossible to ignore. On this farm, all three varieties: Were planted under the same weather conditions. Received the same fertilizer program. Received the same pest and disease management. Received the same irrigation schedule. Received the same staking and field management. Yet the results are speaking for themselves. Both Jorad and Darina are showing exceptional vigor and uniformity across the field. The plants are noticeably more robust, with broader leaves, thicker stems, stronger growth, and better canopy development. More interestingly, many plants are already carrying between 4 and 7 fruits per plant at just 19 days after germination. That is a trait every commercial farmer loves to see. Early fruiting often translates to: Earlier harvests Faster cash flow Better yield potential Stronger return on investment Meanwhile, the Mystery Seed remains significantly behind. The plants are generally leaner, less vigorous, with smaller leaves and weaker vegetative growth. So far, we have not observed any significant fruiting compared to what we are seeing from Jorad and Darina. However, this is where many farmers make mistakes. We are not writing off the Mystery Seed yet. Some varieties are naturally slow starters and may compensate later with heavier fruit load, longer harvest duration, or better disease tolerance. That is why variety trials should never be judged too early. But if we're talking strictly about what we are seeing today at 19 days after germination, Jorad and Darina are clearly leading this race. The season is still young. The trial continues. But one thing is already clear: Good agronomy is important, but good genetics can make all the difference.
