Not directed at you but I neeeeeed people to stop comparing the books and the show. The books are mid at best and the show is doing so much more than the books ever cared to. I block people that watch the show just to point out the differences because they miss what’s going on with the actual show lol.

Let me just start by saying that I don’t agree with their opinion, but from what I’ve seen, the major complaint is that the desire to become a mom is a huge part of Francesca’s character in the book. She is devastated by the fact that she never got pregnant and that still her main priority even after John passes. People feel like her relationship with Michaela changes her arc too much, seeing as she wouldn’t be able to get pregnant at all. I think that the show already made her frustration more about the fact that she never got to give John a heir than about her personal desire to get pregnant. Like she was broken for not being able to do this one thing that her body was “made for”. That’s why she has that conversation with her mom about her not knowing how she feels because Violet was able to give her father 8 children while she couldn’t give John any. It does change her arc but for the better, in my opinion, because now being a mom may no longer be her only goal in life

Absolutely, in the book, her infertility issue with John isn't as deep as in the series, and I think they handle it very well in the show. Furthermore, in Franchesca's book, it was never about children but about the guilt of falling in love again. Wanting to be pregnant is just the story's driving force and the excuse Franchesca uses to avoid feeling guilty about her feelings for Michael. I'm eagerly awaiting Franchaela, and the synopsis for season 5 is almost identical to the book. The characters' motivations might be different, but I think the central plot will remain the same.

i was genuinely shocked by hannah’s acting. her depiction of fran’s grief felt so real and raw. i teared up multiple times. how anyone can say she didn’t truly love john is beyond me

i have been saying since the reveal in s3 that michaela was the smartest decision they could have made. the books are meh but michael is the absolute worst love interest and this is a MUCH more interesting route to take for their story!

i think the difficulty with people who compare the show to the books SO nitpickishly is that they fail to consider that the books dont really care about the non-central siblings like that! like they dont care that we got her fertility issues in this season bc she isnt getting them on the “her book” timeline, when in the books iirc she was basically married offscreen???

I think one of the most annoying things about this character is so many people aren’t even considering the fact that she can be a bisexual woman. It’s either “oh she HAS to be straight to experience infertility” or “she’s a lesbian” and there’s nothing wrong with the character being lesbian, but why is no one considering the in-between, that she did love her husband and struggle with infertility but she is also capable of loving a woman too?
