I don't blame the son in that scene if you have an option to give your kids the best Christmas that you can give them, you do it.That wasn't a random neighbour.There was a priest mind you.They live in basically the middle of nowhere.They live nowhere near the town that priest went out of his way to ask if the mother wanted those gifts. I hated when parents are portrayed to be selfish and priideful at not wanting handouts when they clearly needed, especially when it comes to their kids, he was right, she hears more about her own status and pride and that stupid shack than she does for her own kid's happiness.
