About halfway between L.A. and Flagstaff 🚗 This once famous mining town is located on one of the most scenic stretches of historic Route 66 that cuts through Arizona’s Black Mountains ⛰️ Wild Burros (donkeys) roam the streets and often outnumber the residents… They’re descendants of the original pack animals used by miners during Oatman’s gold rush days 🫏 One of these guys is actually the Mayor of the town. The current mayor is a Burro named Walter the Burro. Before Walter the previous Mayor was Jackass Joe (also a Burro) 🤯 In the early 1900s Oatman boomed after major gold discoveries and quickly grew into one of Arizona’s richest mining communities. When Route 66 was established in 1926 travelers poured through town. Oatman is a cool place to go. I live 20 mins from Oatman. I go there to feed the donkeys, have a drink, and just relax. I also love seeing the donkeys in my yard
