But where he came from makes the story so much more bigger than football. 🫶 His parents, Gideon and Iwaku, fled Burundi’s civil war on foot and walked to Tanzania, where they settled in the Kigoma refugee camp. Nestory was born there in February 2006. Shortly after his birth, he contracted a serious illness that nearly cost him his life. His father went into debt with people in the camp just to pay for the medical care that saved him. A few months later, the family received humanitarian visas and settled in Adelaide, Australia. 🇦🇺🦘 At 15, he signed a scholarship with Adelaide United. At 15, he made his A-League debut, one of the youngest in the league’s history.
