Take an empty suitcase and don’t overpack. The new balance 530s are the best for the amount of walking and standing you’re gonna be doing. Do your Japan entry forms online to skip the lines at the airport.

I wish I knew about Yamato delivery. It’s a delivery service that delivers your luggage to your hotel so you don’t need to drag it on the train and around the city. It allows you to explore the city and then check into your hotel without lugging your suitcase around! Also if you’re from the US, pack light bc you can always buy stuff in Japan :). Also get a eSIM for cheap online (if your phone is locked to your carrier, you can’t do that)

Heavy on a coin purse, your own trash bag and the suica card in your phone. Also, TAKE CASH, a lot of places take only cash. If you ever need a taxi, you can use Uber (used by taxi companies). If you take the Shinkansen and have a layover at a station, print out ALL your tickets at the first station in case there’s a delay. Food wise, I ate the best food in local and family owned businesses rather than eat at wtv is popular, also much cheaper. If you want to see as much as you can, trust me when I say you have to be out the door by 5-6am (depending on what you want to do, some temples and parks are more enjoyable early in the morning before the crowd gets there). Also, the night recovery supplement? Works wonders, I didn’t have jet lag thanks to it

Japanese here, make sure you have comfortable sneakers that are broken in ahead of time. Try restaurants and cafes that are not TikTok viral. There are sooo many in Japan. I’ve found so many awesome places just randomly walking around or I looked up based on where I was visiting. Go to regular grocery stores like Life, and Tobu store. If you go 1-2 hours before closing, the to go foods are heavily discounted. Lawson, and 7-eleven is great but go to MiniStop and try their soft serve 🍦. Have a blast.

If you walk into a restaurant and it looks like someone’s living room/dinning room, get ready for the best food you will eat in your entire life. You will chase the high of that food for the rest of your existence

Bring a coin pouch, if you’re paying cash you’re going to get so many coins! I had so many coins by the end of my trip. You can also go into 7/11 and convert your coins into cash!

Just a tip. You will most likely be doing a lot of walking and traveling to touristy areas. Not many areas have public restrooms and some local businesses close their restrooms. They do it to stay clean and avoid huge crowds flooding a business. Train stations always have restrooms. I over hydrated in my experience and almost had an accident haha

Shower at Haneida airport, then you can start your trip fresh as a daisy. Get Nomad for E-Sim, more affordable than the rest and they also offer service in S. Korea and Europe. Sketchers Archfit 2.0 for +20k steps. They are life savers.
Oh and I know it’s tempting but only use Uber if it’s past midnight. Save your money and use Google Maps to take the local JR Lines. They close at midnight so if you stay out later you will need to uber- it’s expensive. Have a fun trip!

Buy an extra suitcase in Japan instead of bringing one. They are very cheap. I bought a carry on suitcase for $17 usd to bring back my purchases. Perfume prices are amazing!!! Coach, Jimmy Choo, Versace just to name a few.

bring an empty carry on suitcase for souvenirs, pack light and bring layers for clothes! the weather is weird and it could be raining one second and sunny the next. also bring comfy shoes cause you’ll be walking at least 20k+ steps everyday. alsoooo my biggest hack is to buy vacuum seal bags for your clothes! i bought a kit on tiktok shop and it was super handy for packing my suitcase. another tip is download klook to book things on there! anddd make sure to save A LOT cause you’ll spend so much on souvenirs and things there trust me 😂 have fun! i loved japan so much

If you can and are willing to carry it, bring a collapsible stool like one of these. Because there is not NEARLY enough spaces to sit and take a break after walking so much.

If this is your first time, I recommend to visit the 3 big cities because why not🤷🏻♀️they are popular for a reason. Also, not listening to influencers. Get lost and discover Japan. Also dont go during typhoon season like June and September. That’s why tickets are cheap for a reason on those months. Lastly, dont over pack and bring big luggage. Stairs! Stairs! Stairs! Try mix and match your clothes or buy because Japan clothes are cheap which is why I always do carry ons. If you decide to come visit again, drive and explore the country side.
