Napoleon Bonaparte (15 August 1769 – 5 May 1821) was a French military commander and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and became Emperor of the French in 1804. Born in Corsica, Napoleon quickly distinguished himself as a talented artillery officer. His military successes during the Italian campaign made him one of the most prominent figures in France.
