For those who don't understand the word Gothic, it is not a shallow word used for purely 'aesthetic' purposes (and never has been). It is a word used to describe art, architecture and literature, and can apply to many historical eras! In addition, the goth culture has NEVER been purely for aesthetics either, and is a culture based on the Gothic factors listed above, politics, philosophy, music and of course an alternative, more poetic, macabre way of life; the style just comes with it all as a way of rebelling against the norm and the capitalist system we know. Anyone can be edgy and enjoy a darker aesthetic, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's goth or Gothic!

Stave churches are only black sometimes, it’s traditionally tarred for maintenance. 2 hours from Oslo is Heddal stave church the biggest one, my family is buried there and there is a folklore story to it about a troll who built it. Also a small museum in the barn across from it which also acts as a church, the stave church is open inside as either paid guide/entry or free sunday mass.
