The only person we really see having any reaction is the newscaster, a person that is paid to pretend to care about the news. I feel like the text is saying the opposite of what it wanted to say.

Sadly, DD is filled with plot holes, logical inconsistencies and constant impossible escapes. An alien artifact macguffin is wheeled in that magically solves every problem needed to advance the story. And of course, bad guy characters that suddenly have a complete and inexplicable change of heart at the end...
