The tallest wooden church in Romania pierces the sky at over 57 meters, a testament to the Maramures tradition of building heaven-ward with timber rather than stone. The nuns who tend this place manage not only prayer but an entire living compound: workshops, residences, a treasury of icons painted in a style unchanged for generations.
