I remember having to ask my teacher what to do if we didnt have a mom or dad. Instead, my siblings and I made father's day gifts for our uncle. He still has a box full of things from us and his daughter. And Mother's day went to our amazing Nana 🖤

When I was a daycare teacher I always had my kids records in my room with parents contacts, allergies, etc. I always looked to make sure before we made any sort of Mother’s Day or Father’s Day craft. If a kid’s primary guardian was grandparents I’d put that. If the father wasn’t listed on file we’d make something for mom. You never know someone’s situation and I never want to be the one to hurt someone over crafts like this. I’m so sorry for both of you. My dad passed 5 years ago… no one deserves to lose a dad

I remember having a classmate in first grade with two moms and all the teachers printed her a different paper when we did Father’s Day stuff. Different family dynamics are incredibly common, and just printing a new paper isn’t that hard

As a preschool teacher if I know that one of my kids only has a mom or a dad I ask the parent if they have a grandparent they would like to give it to. And if they don’t then I find something that is similar to the other projects.

My oldest son used to give them to my dad. This year I hung it up in my room. He was upset asking where his dad was because someone told him everyone has to have a dad. So hard trying to explain that to a 7 year old. Especially because my 5 year old twins dad is involved in their life. Breaks my heart.
