@moniify: Cheap products don’t always save you money 👀 From fast-fashion to broken chargers to furniture that barely survives one apartment move… modern consumer culture quietly profits from things not lasting. #BootsTheory #Economics #Consumerism #FastFashion #Fintok

people buy fast fashion not just because it's cheap but because you can discard it the moment you get tired of it. i mean... who wants to wear the same shoes for 10 years?

This is only true when the expensive item is better quality… which these day isn’t the case from cars to furniture to electronics to clothes… in all these cases it’s the logo/brand you’re paying for not better quality. I say this changed about 30 years ago

Yes, the theory passed you mean the theory by the science fiction author, Terry Patrick? It’s very debatable, especially in modern day times.

The question is: how do we know that when we decide to buy something expensive, it will actually last 10 years 🤔

but thats assuming that an expensive thing lasts longer which isnt true. I paid $2k for a samsung tv, it died the moment the warranty expired. I now pay for a cheaper local prism tv which cost $500, and the warranty is same period as the Samsung. effectively, I can buy a new cheap tv for the next 8 years for the price of one 2 year expensive tv.

then comes planned obsolescence that ensures both rich and poor pay infinitely for products with lesser quality every new generation of the products that come
